Now we know that this review of the LG Optimus 3D might cause a rift in the space-time continuum or have us all lose our minds with the awesomeness, but the industrious minds at OneMobileRing have managed to make a cool walkthrough video of the UK’s first glasses-free 3D handset, in 3D!

Now to actually get the full effect, there are a couple of options… You may need a 3D-capable screen to view it in its glory, or you can also PUT YOUR 3D GLASSES ON NOW (we’re talking the old-school red and greens here) and enjoy!

Uploaded to YouTube’s new 3D section, the LG Optimus 3D enables users to quickly and easily send video footage – all with added depth – straight onto the web!

A quick tap of that ’3D’ button gives one touch access to all the retina-scorching content on the device, whilst there is also a great feature that enables conversion from 2D to 3D of videos, games and media on the fly!

Whilst the LG Optimus 3D hasn’t quite set the world alight in terms of sales just yet, many (us included) think that the arrival of HTC’s forthcoming EVO 3D handset will cause a bit of competition amongst these new smartphones, hopefully getting folks a tad more excited about the 3D mobile revolution…

LG Optimus 3D review

Verdict

If you’re happy to take a punt on glasses-free 3D being here to stay, the 3D features of the LG Optimus 3D are certainly enough to warrant its high price. The 3D video’s great, with a genuine sense of depth coming across in the footage.

The worry is, if you take a load of 3D photos and videos now, are they going to be viewable five or 10 years down the line? Or will you be left with a big, undocumented gap in your life, where all your photos and videos were taken in a format that no new devices support?

Also, for those looking for a high-quality smartphone as well as a 3D conversation piece, there are many better, faster, longer-lasting options out there – for less money.

The success of the LG Optimus 3D boils down to how willing people are to pay a premium for its nice 3D features – and whether they are happy to sacrifice style and battery life in return.

Nokia E6 review

Verdict

The Nokia E6 is a well-built, very capable business phone with plenty of apps and features to suit business users. It’s built for text heavy users, with a powerful camera for good light photography.

However, while Symbian Anna is a step forward, it still feels like it’s hamstrung by previous iterations with a slightly clunky feel and long time to open some applications still present.

With MeeGo, Nokia has proven it can make a more modern smartphone interface, and while the thumb-friendly touchscreen is an ace move, we still can’t recommend the Nokia E6 if you’re looking for a next-gen smartphone rather than just an above-average communication device with decent camera

Samsung Tocco Icon review

Conclusion
The distinction between smart phones and feature phones is usually quite clear, but the Samsung Tocco Icon certainly blurs the line somewhat. Samsung has been able to factor in a considerable number of smart phone hallmarks into this cheap device, including a slick and customisable UI, powerful email options and live widgets.

For the price, the Tocco Icon stands head and shoulders over fellow feature phones, but when placed alongside the new breed of sub-£100 Android handsets — such as the Samsung Galaxy Fit and Mini — it makes less sense.

You may wonder why you should settle for a smart phone impostor when you can have the real thing, but it would be unfair to totally dismiss this likeable handset. Like the Tocco Lite before it, the Icon could well provide younger mobile users with the experience they need before they graduate to a fully-fledged smartphone.

LG Optimus Chat review

Conclusion

The LG Optimus Chat stands out from other budget Android phones, such as the Samsung Galaxy Fit and Vodafone Smart, thanks to its QWERTY keyboard. If you’ve struggled with touchscreen typing in the past and hanker for the feel of proper, physical buttons, then it’s well worth a look. Just don’t expect cutting-edge hardware and software.

Samsung Galaxy Fit review

Conclusion
The Samsung Galaxy Fit manages to outclass the Galaxy Mini with a larger screen, better camera and more attractive appearance. In terms of raw power, though, the two phones are practically identical.

The market in cheap Android phones is becoming increasingly crowded, but the Fit’s solid design and excellent camera make it a viable choice if you’re shopping on a shoestring.

Nokia E6 review

Conclusion
The Nokia E6 is most definitely an improvement over the E5, offering a touch-screen interface, improved Symbian^3 ‘Anna’ OS and a more robust and aesthetically-pleasing design. It’s just a shame that Nokia didn’t see fit to bolster the anaemic processor and add in an auto-focus camera.

The E6′s natural rivals are the ageing (yet still popular) BlackBerry 8520 and the BlackBerry 8900, but the presence of a QWERTY keyboard puts it in direct competition with similar phones, such as the Android-powered Acer beTouch E210.

Compared to all of those devices, the E6 fares extremely well, and if you can put up with its faults you’ll come away reasonably contented with your purchase.

LG Optimus 3D review

Conclusion
The LG Optimus 3D can stand tall as the first phone in Britain to deliver glasses-free 3D. If you’re planning to invest in a 3D camcorder anyway, or you’re a 3D addict with a telly to match, the Optimus 3D does a solid job creating and displaying 3D on the move. But if you’re not that bothered about 3D — or the paltry content that’s currently available — the Optimus 3D isn’t much to get excited about. It’s a powerful, zippy Android smart phone, but it’s on the chunky side and it lacks stylishness inside and out.

We’ll have to wait until the autumn before the Optimus 3D’s main competitor, the HTC Evo 3D, shows up on shelves. In the meantime, we prefer the slicker, lighter, 2D-only Samsung Galaxy SII or HTC Sensation to the Optimus 3D.

Motorola Atrix review

” src=”http://mobilenews.omio.com/wp-content/ATRIX4G_Front_Home_ATT_thumb.jpg” alt=”Olympus_Front_1, 10/25/10, 10:50 AM, 8C, 4800×2700 (536+2632), 100%, bent 6 adjuste, 1/20 s, R66.9, G51.0, B78.7
” width=”271″ height=”480″ border=”0″ />

Verdict

As a standalone phone, the Motorola Atrix competes well against the dual-core Android competition due to its high res screen, unique fingerprint scanner, great battery life and comfortable form factor, though is let down by a mediocre camera, some unnecessary interface tweaks and limited video support. As such, it rather depends which you prioritise. Add in its dock accessories, though, and it shines out brightly. There is something undeniably cool about having one device perform so many of your daily functions. Unfortunately these docks don’t come for free and the lapdock in particular simply can’t compete for functionality with a laptop, netbook or even tablet. If and when Android updates come that more comprehensively support it then it could be amazing but as it stands, it’s a nice to have, not a must have

HTC ChaCha review

Verdict
The HTC ChaCha is a sturdy little smartphone with a fine QWERTY keyboard and a good-looking, if rather squished screen. The Facebook facility is well integrated and though it doesn’t offer anything really different, it does make posting simpler and quicker. The small display means it’s a bit of a jump from a standard smartphone, but BlackBerry users will certainly want to take a look

Nokia X7 Symbian Anna smartphone

Verdict
There’s no denying it, Nokia is a class act, capable of delivering some of the best-looking handsets around. This metal-cased phone is well-designed and has great build quality. There are lots of features, all handled well and Nokia’s ability to make a smartphone run for a decent length of time should not be underestimated. In many ways, the Nokia X7 is a simply terrific phone, if a bit on the large side.

But it’s powered by Symbian and although this is the best version of the operating system yet, and the version which should have been on the N8, it feels creaky. In the autumn, when Nokia releases its first Windows Phone handset, expect the world to change.

Despite doing the dual-core business with the Optimus Black and Optimus 2X, then blazing a trail in the glasses-free handset game with the Optimus 3D, Korean manufacturer LG aren’t done with their Android phone invasion, introducing a duo of Gingerbread-powered devices in the Optimus Net and Optimus Pro.

The LG Optimus Net is another one of those social networking mobiles that everyone seems so eager to create (yet consumers are slightly less inclined to purchase…) bringing all of your favourite sites like Bebo, MySpace and Hi5 (okay, more like Facebook and Twitter) onto the home screen.

One-touch photo uploading redeems it somewhat, making it a pretty cool phone to keep everyone abreast of your latest misadventures. Add that to SmartShare functionality allowing for easy sharing of content with other gadgets equipped with DLNA, and the Optimus Net comes pretty close to LG’s ‘Androids for Everyone’ mantra…provided the price is right.

With a 3.2-inch HVGA touchscreen display, 3.15-megapixel camera, 800Mhz CPU, Wi-Fi connectivity and Near Field Communication (NFC) support for micro-transactions in some launch territories, the Optimus Net actually sounds like a highly capable Android handset.

The LG Optimus Pro is the phone maker’s first stab at an Android handset with a BlackBerry-style QWERTY keyboard, but that’s not to say the 2.8-inch screen isn’t touch-ready too, because it is.

The offer of a ‘best of both worlds’ device could muscle in on the lucrative entry level smartphone market currently dominated by RIM, and the selection of colours as well as dedicated buttons for e-mail and calendars make for a strong handset when it comes to productivity.

Both handsets are equipped with a hefty 1500mAh battery to enable users to liveblog to their heart’s content, and are due for a ‘Summer’ launch.

Despite LG recently scaling back their sales forecasts, these handsets just how eager they are to contend within both the flagship and affordable sectors of the mobile market.

The buzz was all over the LG stand this year, throngs of people came to see what could well be the next big thing in mobile – the 3D display on the new LG Optimus handset.

Frequent demos, 3D TVs, a massive rotating Optimus 3D showcasing the functionality, it was clear that the Korean manufacturer had learned much from past dalliances with Android and were going at it full pelt with an impressive line-up of distinct devices.

LG Optimus 2X – A turbo-charged device that lived entirely up to it’s reputation, the 2X was swift. Menu transitions, loading web pages, running graphically intensive games, the Optimus 2X really had the responsiveness where it counted, thanks to a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 chip that offers this smartphone equivalent horsepower to desktop PCs just a little while back.

Whilst unassuming in terms of form factor and design, Android certainly looked snazzy on the 2X’s crisp 4-inch touchscreen, whilst 1080p video recording and playback made it great for both watching and making movies.

Processing power is hardly something that you can tangibly wow onlookers with, but it’s nice to have the 2X rarely hitch or even spend time ‘thinking,’ particularly when put through its paces on multitasking or movie playback duties.

A sturdily built device, the very slim frame (10.2mm), processing grunt and no-nonsense stylings certainly make it a good choice for power users, but perhaps the Optimus 2X is lacking a little in personality to make it stand out from the pack.

LG Optimus Black – One for the gadget fans again, the surprising thing about the Optimus Black was how innovative a device it was! In fact the Optimus Black was so incredibly light and the display so bright and vivid, that one might mistake it for a dummy device on initial inspection!

Realising it was in fact the real deal, the 9.2mm thin handset exudes style and class, simply looking every inch the slick multimedia handset. The rich 4-inch NOVA display is phenomenal, delivering a brightness and clarity of text and images that rivals even the iPhone 4′s Retina display.

Whilst our second reaction after amazement was fear of a shortened battery life due to the Optimus Black’s super-bright screen, we were reassured that the handset is actually energy-efficient, saving 50% more power than an equivalent AMOLED display, while still delivering on the brightness and clarity fronts. The beefy 1500 mAh battery won’t hurt on increasing those standby times either…

Not content with just becoming the thinnest smartphone on the market as well as having the brightest display, the Optimus Black also is the first to sport LG’s new ‘Gesture UI’ which meant certain applications and features could be accessed simply by waggling the device.

Expanding on tricks like flipping over a handset to silence a call (as seen on HTC devices), this enables a shake to access the camera, for example, whilst a tap on the side fires up the music application.

Actually trying this out had mixed results, but we can only see this feature resulting in accidental launching of apps at inopportune moments in the real world…

Finally, yet another great feature that did have practical capabilities was wireless transferring of data on the Optimus Black over Wi-Fi Direct. It enables other Wi-Fi direct enables devices to ping data between each other incredibly quickly, we’re talking around 20 times the speed of Bluetooth, and – as the name suggests – directly.

The demonstration had a bunch of Optimus Blacks flinging files back and forth at a real rate of knots, it’s just a matter of waiting for other mobile devices to use this standard too.

So the LG Optimus Black is definitely a phone of firsts, and a decent Android 2.2-powered device to boot. Expect this one to be quite affordable in terms of pricing, and – if not moving massive numbers itself – being remembered as a landmark phone for features like Wi-Fi Direct and the NOVA display. We like.

LG Optimus 3D – The main attraction. Between this device and the Nintendo 3DS, glasses-free 3D could well become the technological advancement that changes the game in 2011.

A slick device from the off, the Optimus 3D is a smartphone slab of high-end proportions, and the major appeal of having a 3D phone in your pocket literally has to be seen to be justified.

A quick hold of the physical ’3D’ key on the side of the device fires up the 3D ‘hub’, which offers quick access to view, create, share or play with triple dimensional content. It’s a nice first port of call, and there are cute animated tips and guides on how to get the most out of the device.

Upon firing up a 3D video on the history of aviation, there was an slight twinge of disappointment as finding the sweet spot for the viewing angle and distance was a little tough, and you really do have to hold the Optimus 3D quite still to get the full effect.

When it finally got into full swing with sweeping vistas and swooping jets, the glasses-free technology was admittedly quite convincing.

In contrast to the ‘out-of-the-screen’ gimmicky effects, many scenes simply had far greater sense of scale and depth, making for a very compelling watch. The ‘wow’ factor when demonstrating the Optimus 3D whilst down the pub will be substantial, we imagine…

LG have also hooked up with publisher Gameloft, who provides three of their biggest selling games enhanced in 3D for the device.

Driving game Asphalt 6 and Halo-inspired shooter N.O.V.A. are all on board, whilst animated plus fours and fun on the links make up Let’s Golf. It’s a great move allowing people to experience some gaming fun on the Optimus 3D out of the box.

As with when watching video, it takes a while to see a 3D image rather than two parallax 2D ones (which is kind of how the tech works, firing a different image at each eye with adjacent pixels), and at those times it’s a bit of a mess.

Let’s Golf was fun, but the constant need to touch or tilt the screen in the cases of Asphalt and N.O.V.A. respectively tended to break the 3D illusion as our meaty digits obscured the screen.

It does however work very well, but just as with the support for movies, the onus is on continuing to provide content post-release that justifies the 3D experience. If I’m still showing that ‘history of aviation’ video in six months time to inquisitive friends and family, something has gone terribly wrong…

We were however assured by LG that talks were in progress with both movie studios and games developers about providing 3D wares, so we hope there’s a solid line-up to accompany the handset’s Q2 launch.

Two 5-megapixel cameras on the rear of the Optimus 3D means that it can also record 3D video, enabling you to watch them back on the device or fire them off to a 3D telly via HDMI or DLNA, which is cool. The cameras worked just fine, and were replete with the usual features and trickery to be found in an LG handset.

An even better home for the reams of recorded 3D content is on Youtube, as LG has struck up a deal with the video harvesters to enable the Optimus 3D to upload directly to the site. Youtube 3D has actually been around for some time, but the lack of cost-effective ways to create 3D video has meant their virtual shelves were relatively barren.

With the Optimus 3D it was a couple of button taps, a bit of buffering and the video was ready to go. It’s a great way to kick start the 3D movement, giving power to everyone to create their own movie masterpieces…or their own versions of Avatar.

The 3D stuff is confined to just the entertainment hub, so there are no calendars popping out of the screen in the main UI just yet, and battery life does take a hit when watching 3D content (4 hours versus 8 hours of 1080p video playback and 10 hours of regular 2D), with a standby time of around 450 hours.

Going into the Optimus 3D hands-on with an air of cynicism, I thought that it might be pretty poor implementation of something which is gimmicky at best.

I was glad to be wrong, as whilst it feels like the first generation in some of the more workmanlike aspects of its implementation (viewing angle and the like), the scope for amazing things in 3D on the small screen is immense.

The Optimus 3D is a great proof of concept, whilst the Youtube 3D backbone and talks with content providers like Sky and Eurosport mean plans for a steady stream of 3D entertainment are certainly at the forefront of their mind.

The Optimus 3D will certainly need it to prove those detractors wrong, and will be crucial in determining whether 3D becomes a gimmick rather or a must-have feature in future devices.

LG Optimus Pad – LG’s tasty tablet the Optimus Pad was a nice surprise, with the 15:9 8.9-inch wonder impressing many with its ability to record in high-def as well as offer a hardcore tablet experience.

It is most akin to the 2X in terms of form and features, a lean Android machine proudly displaying a ‘with Google’ stamp on its rear, meaning that the Optimus Pad is rocking the raw, uncut Honeycomb.

A good experience it is too, as Android for the tablet is still very recognisable as Google’s platform, visual accents and a landscape-loving layout made it a nice and eminently customisable experience.

It was indeed very fingerprint friendly, as is the Way of the Tablet, but the Tegra 2 processor meant a silky user experience. Plenty of homescreens, a whole gaggle of apps and a nice rubberised rear made for a nice all-round feel on the Optimus Pad.

Also: double cameras! Yes, the Optimus Pad is also attempting to get pulses racing by enabling people to take 3D photos with a pair of 5-megapixel cameras and display them on…their televisions via HDMI.

Ignoring the logistics of lugging the Optimus Pad around to capture those precious moments, the tablet does in fact do 3D playback on its own display, but it’s the old-fashioned glasses kind. Very 2010…but still pretty awesome.

The tablet market is already getting crowded, and Honeycomb isn’t doing much to differentiate matters. LG were very confident about the Optimus Pad though, enough to put it up against thinly-veiled Apple iPads and Samsung Galaxy Tabs on their own stand. Brave.

Comparing it with the big guns in terms of portability and ease of use with one hand as well as the keyboard skills, the Optimus Pad did admittedly come out pretty favourably. Let’s just hope they get it right with the all-important pricing come Q2.

It wasn’t all bleeding edge tech up in the LG booth, some ‘accessible Android’ handsets were chilling out around the back…

LG Optimus Chat – A real ‘gateway’ smartphone before getting into the big leagues, it ticks all of those affordable handset boxes of looking cute, sporting a decent camera (3-megapixel in this one’s case) and a good screen size (a 2.8-incher, with touch). Unfortunately the display a low resolution 320 x 240 affair, so Android doesn’t look its loveliest on the Chat by any means, but core functionality is all present and correct.

The LG Optimus Chat also has a great little keyboard for thrashing out those quick texts or tweets, and is living it up with Android 2.2 so is pretty up to the minute when it comes to stuff like Google Maps Navigation and turning it into a portable Wi-Fi hotspot.

None too shabby…

LG Optimus Me -As above but shorn of its keyboard, the Optimus Me is one of those great little smartphones that wouldn’t let you down. It’s no supermodel but it’s dependable, petite, fashionable in its choice of Android (2.2), and you just know where you stand with it.

Light at 108g, this curvaceous caller will not set the mobile world alight, but expect to see it performing capably in the affordable contract and prepay sector later in the year.

LG are definitely trying to innovate with their devices after slipping in 2010. The close working relationship with Google is finally beginning to bear fruit with Android powerhouses like the 2X and Optimus 3D giving the Korean manufacturer a buzz for the first time in a while…

Opting to fight in the ‘true tablet war’ with the Optimus Pad seems like a necessity, but it is very much a first generation device, and hopefully more adventurous entries are to follow.

It remains to be seen if all of their bets will pay off – 3D is potentially a huge gamble – but it is good to see LG leading from the front in terms of hardware innovation, as well as catering to all tiers of the market once again.

We especially like the overtly aggressive attitude – pretty uncharacteristic for a Far Eastern manufacturer – where LG are simply pitching their latest devices head-on with the competition, in the stern belief that theirs are better. It’s refreshing as well as encouraging, we’ll see whether LG emerges a victor in what is certain to be a bloody battle for the smartphone (and tablet) crown in 2011.

From MWC 2011:

In a press release today, Orange have revealed that they will be be ranging two of LG’s newest handsets at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Optimus 3D and the Optimus Black. Both handsets are due for release in the second quarter, so expect a release between April and June. As soon as Omio hears anything more specific, we will report it of course.

LG’s Optimus 3D

The dual core Optimus 3D combines a dual 5MP 3D camera, with a 4.3″ glasses-less 3D screen, meaning that users can capture 3D videos and pictures on their handset. Whilst some are still on the fence over whether 3D is still just a gimmick, the announcement of LG’s partnership with Youtube to provide a 3D content portal means that user uploaded video’s and other multimedia content will have an outlet. Users will also be able to play 3D games on the handset, and with an online games portal beating even the Nintendo 3DS to the market, it will be interesting to see how much of an impact, if indeed any, this will have on the Big N’s plans.

LG’s Optimus Black

The Optimus Black is marketed as the ‘world’s slimmest mobile device’ ranging from 6mm to 9.2mm thick. The Optimus Black has a revoltionary low-power/high-brightness screen. The Nova display displays at up to 700 nits meaning it will be bright even in direct sunlight. On top of this power consumption is also reduced. LG claim that during normal use, the display will only use 50% of the power of conventional displays. It also weighs in at something of a featherweight 109g, so don’t expect it to wear a hole in your pocket.

We will be keeing our ears to the ground regarding availability and pricing as we get closer to the date, so rest assured, check back at our deals page for more info on both handsets. We will also be posting hands on impressions and videos throughout MWC 2011, so stay with us for more info.

Korean manufacturer LG have officially kickstarted the ‘era of the 3D mobile’ today, launching the LG Optimus 3D in Barcelona.

Powered by a dual-core, dual channel Texas Instruments processor and packing dual memory (three D’s, geddit?), the Optimus 3D promises to revolutionise the market, offering the first glasses-free 3D display in addition to a legion of high-end smartphone specs.

The 4.3-inch WVGA display enables high-definition playback of video (at a maximum of 720p in 3D), and has a crisp screen to show off the Optimus 3D’s enhanced user interface.

A dedicated portal dubbed the ’3D Zone’ enables easy access to all of the Optimus 3D’s depth-filled content, accessible via a physical hotkey on the device. In addition to quick access to image galleries and games, this portal is also home to YouTube 3D, a new channel offering the cream of triple-D user-generated content.

You thought a panda sneezing was adorable in 2 dimensions? Just wait until enterprising folks start uploading their 3D masterpieces!

The Optimus has two 5-megapixel cameras placed adjacently on the rear of the device, enabling snaps and video to be taken in high-resolution, plus with the benefit of out-of-the-screen-osity.

Three games from prolific publisher Gameloft are pre-loaded onto the device, all customised for the Optimus 3D and making full benefit of the groundbreaking gadget’s multi-core prowess and visual flair.

Our only issue is that some peoples’ holiday snaps are dull enough in two dimensions…here’s hoping that a third can make Auntie’s soul-searching trip to Mexico that bit more riveting…

Popular shooter N.O.V.A., Asphalt Racing and Let’s Golf have all had a makeover, and certainly play at least on a par with today’s top-flight smartphones, with the 3D making it all the more immersive.

With the Optimus 3D able to view, create and share 3D content via both HDMI and DLNA, they hope that this will galvanise the shift into consumers enjoying three-dimensional entertainment more fully.

Marked for a global 2nd quarter launch, the Optimus 3D will launch on Android version 2.2, but should be upgradable to the all-singing 2.3 in good time – also a testament to the degree of customisation LG have given to Google’s OS…

Pricing details are scant at the moment, but there will surely be a raft of networks willing to ride the wave of 3D tech…stay tuned for more details!

We’ve been hearing a lot about the LG Star and all its dual-core Tegra 2 processor.

LG has officially announced the new Optimus 2X, the real name for the Star. The phone will ship with:

The LG Optimus 2X will be in Korea by January, Asia and Europe shortly afterwards.

I must admit, this is a bit exciting for both mobile development and for Android’s marketshare. I guess Jobs won’t be far behind and will “invent” Dual core in June for his iPhone5.

Press release follows:

LG LAUNCHES WORLD’S FIRST AND FASTEST DUAL-CORE SMARTPHONE
LG Optimus 2X with Tegra 2 Offers Top Multimedia Features for a Better User Experience

SEOUL, Dec. 16, 2010 — LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled the LG Optimus 2X, the world’s first smartphone with a dual-core processor. Along with more powerful multimedia features, the LG Optimus 2X’s high-performance Tegra 2 processor makes for faster, smoother web browsing and applications and lets users multitask with virtually no screen lag.

“Dual-core technology is the next leap forward in mobile technology so this is no small achievement to be the first to offer a smartphone utilizing this technology,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, CEO and President of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “With unique features such as HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) mirroring and exceptional graphics performance, the LG Optimus 2X is proof of LG’s commitment to high-end smartphones in 2011.”

Developed by graphics processor powerhouse NVIDIA?, the dual-core Tegra 2 system-on-a-chip found in the LG Optimus 2X runs at a clock speed of 1GHz and boasts low power consumption and high performance for playing video and audio. Users will experience faster web browsing and smoother gameplay compared with single-core processors running at the same speed as well as instantaneous touch response and seamless multitasking between applications.

The LG Optimus 2X offers 1080p HD video playback and recording with HDMI mirroring that expands content on external displays to full HD quality. The LG Optimus 2X can connect wirelessly to any DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) compatible digital device such as HD TVs for a console-like gaming experience taking full advantage of the phone’s HDMI mirroring, accelerometer and gyro sensor. The smartphone also includes both rear- and front-facing cameras, microSD memory expandability, Micro-USB port and a hefty 1500mAh battery.

The LG Optimus 2X will be available in Korea next month with countries in Europe and Asia to follow. The phone will initially be released with Android 2.2 (Froyo) and will be upgradeable to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). The upgrade schedule will be announced in local markets in due course.

As CES 2011 announcements have begun to usher in a raft of technically superior smartphones, LG’s dual-core monster – the Optimus 2X – has been given a 21st February release date as well as a SIM-free pricetag on Expansys.com.

Their own LG Optimus 2X page has the handset pegged for £499.99, a fair price to pay for one of the most powerful Android phones yet seen, packing two 1Ghz processors (meaning faster…everything, hopefully) and some impressive multimedia credentials with DLNA streaming as well as 1080p video recording and playback as standard.

With the need for mobiles to differentiate themselves from the competition more than ever in a crowded market, the turbo-charged LG Optimus 2X looks to be an early front-runner for popularity amongst tech-heads in 2011.

Pocket-Lint has been briefed by Microsoft top brass, coming back with the full line-up of manufacturers to be launching Windows Phone 7 handsets in Q4.

HTC, LG and Samsung are joined by mobile newbies Dell and Asus on day one for Microsoft, but details on particular handsets or form factors remain elusive.

Greg Sullivan, senior product manager for Microsoft, also clarified the lack of network exclusivity for mobiles running the new mobile operating system, citing that they ‘want as many people as possible to be able to get it’.

“We will offer the best aspects of Android and the best of the iPhone, giving users the flexibility of different form factors, but with the rigidity of apps that are guaranteed to work on every device that is out there”.

Sounds like a good strategy to us, as the impressive Palm Pre could well have been doomed from the start by launching as an exclusive on the only network that also offered the iPhone…

Whilst some app developers have recently taken receipt (and showed off) their Samsung-based Windows Phone 7 devices, we know little more about the handsets from other manufacturers due for release this Winter.

The HTC Gold was leaked on a roadmap as the Taiwanese manufacturer’s debut handset, whilst LG’s ‘Panther’ phone was apparently alluded to by Sullivan, now branded the ‘Pacific’.

April’s leaky line-up of Dell phones did reveal the Lightning as an WinMo monster, sporting a 4.1-inch OLED display, 8GB of storage and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. We’re sure Asus won’t be far behind with their effort…

Strong initial handsets will be key to the success of Windows Phone 7, and we eagerly anticipate Microsoft’s return to a now very crowded smartphone arena.

The fate of Windows Mobile hangs in the balance, but the manufacturers years of tireless service to the Mobile Industry still gives it a plethora manufacturers all happy to endorse any new projects it may have, after all, LG can’t have a piece of the iPie so who else would they support?

The all-new version of Windows Phone isn’t due to arrive until December however, back in September LG promised lots of new Windows handsets and this phone, leaked on mobiletechworld.com today is using Windows Phone 7.

Early stuff, but shows that WP7 isn’t just vapourware.
