Nokia has made an official announcement that states what we all expected, that the Japanese Tsunami will affect it’s global operations.

In a statement made yesterday the mobile giant confirmed that it is anticipating severe disruption in it’s ability to roll out handsets nationwide, but that it will not see any financial impact until Q2.

Nokia’s market CEO, Niklas Savander said:

First and foremost, our thoughts are with those affected by the earthquake in Japan. We are working hard to support our employees, their families, as well as disaster relief efforts through the Japanese Red Cross. We are in constant dialogue with our suppliers and with their extended supply chain in the region.

While the majority of the companies operations are still based in Finland, they do still source a number of components from Japan.

Yesterday we saw an extremely (un)inspiring back cover of the HTC Pyramid. Today we get closer to a reveal.

The Dual-Core future phone is still sat alongside it’s Desire HD brother, showing a suspected resolution jump up to qHD (or 960 x 540).

The 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm chip and a 4.3-inch qHD display are the two crowning features on HTC’s new EVO 3D, so this looks to be it’s sibling for another network, or international market.

So that’s the future qHD and dual-core CPUs for Android. Sweet…..

Last week investment firm, BC Partners, bought up majority shares of popular uk Mobile Phone retailer Phones4U. CEO Tim Whiting thinks this is a good move for the company.

Speaking to “Mobile” he said:

Providence Equity Partners has been an excellent shareholder for the company. They have been with us for five years and the business has performed very well under their ownership. We had a strong 2010 and have started well this year.

The purchase by BC Partners is a very good thing for us. I am a strong believer that businesses work in cycles, so having new shareholders gives us an opportunity to reinvigorate the business. BC Partners saw opportunities in Phones 4u as our business is on a growth trajectory, we are looking to exploit the rise in demand for smart phones, and they appreciate our strong position in the youth market.

Whiting went on to say that they had no plans to shuffle management structure or make dramatic cuts despite economic pressures but instead would be building up the comapny’s current strategy to focus on the smartphone market.

Phones4U plan to open more brick-and-mortar stores and more in-house franchises in Dixons and PC World stores nationwide.

“We will roll out significantly more of them this year, plus more of our own stores, The core estate in a good state, so this year we will focus more on driving market share in areas where we are less well represented geographically.’

He3 went on to say that the 16-24 age demographic was still the focus of the company, but added that they do sell to a lot of people outside of those age brackets.

With the MWC in full swing we’ve gotten to see some great new devices about to hit, one of the most interesting is surely the Optimus 3D.

3D technology is becoming more common ever since the success of James Cameron’s Avatar. First saw cinemas with passive filters and then to TV manufacturers offering active 3D screens. With the launch of the 3DS and it’s great screen it’s no surprise that 3D is coming to the mobile phone too, and we’re excited.

The LG Optimus 3D doesn’t require the user to wear any glasses, much like the 3DS, for the 3D image to be displayed. The user’s eyes just have to be at the correct distance, directly in front of the handset.

Viewing 3D movies on the handset is going to be something that attracts the mobile commuter but being able to take pictures and movies in 3D is going to attract the majority. Using not one, but two 5 megapixel rear facing cameras allows the user to capture stereoscopic images and then display them on the device’s native 3D screen.

At launch it’ll have 2.2 Froyo, however Gingerbread is expected to make a show shortly after

LG is the first company to create a deal with YouTube that will allow users to upload and watch 3D movies directly on YouTube’s 3D gallery from launch.

To make the device even more attractive it comes packed with a dual-core 1GHz processor with 512MB of Multi Channel Ram giving the dual core processors plenty of grunt to compile your 3D pieces. In 2D mode the phone can capture 1080p video too.

Article Content:
Wowsers it’s a day and a half for HTC at the MWC for HTC launching handset after handset, each with Android goodness:

Incredible S

The new Incredible S is a new 4-incher that emulates the Droid Incredible’s successful design, but changes a few things.

It’s coming to the UK, and everywhere else at some point in early Q2, but with only Android 2.2 on board.

It supposedly feels like a very solidly and neatly built and stylishly the capacitive buttons’ labels aren’t painted on and rotate with the screen, so that they can be either in landscape or portrait mode.

Sexy little thing it is.

As for specs, the Incredible S comes with

1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255
768MB of RAM
720p HD video-capable 8 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and autofocus
1.3 megapixel front-facing image taker
1450mAh battery

Click here to view the embedded video.

Desire S

The 3.7-inch Desire S. It is essentially an HTC Desire inside a new aluminum unibody shell. The camera is still a 5 MP shooter, and the handset is powered by a MSM8255.

Additional Specs are:

front-facing camera (1.3MP)
768MB of RAM
1450mAh battery.

This little flagship will also ship with Gingerbread.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Wildfire S

Then comes the Wildfire S, the newest budget handset from HTC, which ups the resolution from the poor QVGA to HVGA and adds more colors and vibrancy.

The strangely shaped 3.2 inch screen is certainly brighter, and helps level out any performance woes you may get with the 2.3 Gingerbread goodness.

So last weekend we went to check out the new Nintendo 3DS at a pre-release event being held in Bristol. Sure, it’s not a phone, but it’s tech, and it’s pretty damn cool.

I’ve put together a HD video showing the highlights of Nintendo’s new NGP breaker, so please take a look at the video and let us know what you think.

We cover what games are coming out, how well the 3D works, Augmented reality, SKY 3D on the device and lots of pretty women, what more could you possibly want?

(As a nice easter egg, the video also features my first ever accidental viral clip. A 25 second extract that got picked up by popular blog Kotaku and ended up getting 165k views in 2 days!). Enjoy!

Daz: Please excuse any hiccups, this was my first ever attempt at creating a video and editing one so was a bit of a learning curve

Featuring an ergonomically crafted keyboard, Sony Ericsson has focused on integrating the hardware with clever messaging functions for a perfect user experience. Xperia™ pro introduces the subtle but fast Type & Send functionality eliminating the need to open a dedicated app for each type of message, and Smart Keyboard that triggers predictive messaging actions automatically when the user slides out the keyboard.

We knew that the Xperia play wasn’t going to be Sony’s only release at MWC this month, but we didn’t expect such clear, leaked pictures of the other handsets too.

This is the Xperia Neo supposedly, and as you can see, it’s running Gingerbread. It looks sleek, in a X10 kind of way.

Along with the Neo, Play (aka the PlayStation Phone) and the Arc, the Xperia line which is being shown off at M.W.C. may include the Duo, for which we don’t really know much else about.
