Whilst Sony might poke fun the current state of mobile gaming, Microsoft are taking things very seriously when it comes to launching their XBox Live service on Windows Phone 7 handsets later this year, revealing their launch titles to bolster their new operating system.

Current App Store success stories like Flight Control, Fruit Ninja and Implode XL are present and correct as are the contingent of marquee names like Splinter Cell, but so are a few surprises like a conversion of WiiWare/PC platformer Max and the Magic Marker and the beautiful and super-quirky puzzler ilomilo.

Even flagship Microsoft franchises including Crackdown and Halo are set to make their mobile debut on Windows Phone 7 devices (although the Waypoint suffix for the latter suggests the same news portal currently gracing 360s rather than a fully fledged blaster), with many titles supporting the in-game achievements and friendly competition (albeit turn-based) that prove integral to the Xbox Live experience.

We have been eagerly awaiting XBox Live functionality on mobiles for a long time, it’s good to see Microsoft coming out of the gate with some killer apps (if you’ll excuse the pun).

The following video showcases some of the titles coming ‘this holiday season’ on Windows Phone 7 mobiles, interesting to see the quality of some rivalling dedicated gaming handhelds, whilst others look a little…unfinished.
