Posh phone stories never get old. The formula is tried and tested: Take a solid classic handset – usually a top class Nokia, dip it in Gold and give it a Swarovski for a button and Bob’s your Uncle twice-removed you’ve got a way of separating people with far too much money from their cash.

Luxury phone designer serial phone defacer Givori however, have been taking the practice to whole new levels (depths?).

The firm recently unveiled its new Calypso range, which inspired by Greek Mythology is swathed in intricately cut mother of pearl arranged in an eye-catching fish-scale design and joined with gold pin embellishments.

As far as luxury phones go, it’s actually pretty beautiful, but a visit to Givori’s website reveal a history of grotesquely contorted handsets. Here’s a sample:

Moulin Rouge

“All the spectacle, drama and lavish entertainment (of the legendary venue Moulin Rouge) are captured here in this riot of colour”. Highlights include golden drama masks, a vintage glass dollar sign…. a shoe and an Eiffel Tower.

Nefertiti

As homage to Queen Nefertiti – Wife of Egyptian Pharaoh Akhenaten and step-mother to the young Tutankhamun. Components include real elephant ivory, 18K gold charms and “vintage material hand carried from Africa”.

Tetris Mishmash

Tetris, the game that captured a million imaginations, is somehow painfully evoked in this miserably defaced Nokia 6111.

And our favourite… BEETHOVEN

“Inspired by the legendary German composer and his secret passion for a mystery woman.” Classy.

The new Givori Calypso collection is available in Classic edition and an Exclusive edition, priced at AED 8,899 (about ,420) and AED 15,000 (about ,100) respectively.
