RIM, Research In Motion, the guys who innovated the mobile phone to that of a mobile office several years before the rest of the pack this week announced their latest handset, the fanastically named Blackberry Torch (or 9800).

It truely is the torch that is set to light the company too, in the past few years RIM have flagged behind with handsets that almost met the customers expectations but then fell away either with lack of wi-fi, lack of 3G dodgy touchscreen etc.

However despite one small niggle of a less than stellar resolution on the display, the Torch does look to be a phone that I could see myself using. A nice form factor, a convenient thumb keyboard (and Blackberry know how to do portrait keyboards!) and Blackberry OS6 or Blackberry 6 as it’s now known which is said to be a step in the right direction.

No official dates for UK launches yet, but I’m sure it won’t be long before it’s competing.
