Rumours of a Sony Ericsson – PlayStation and Xperia branded phone powered by Android 3.0 are starting to surface.

Sony Ericsson is said to be working on a hybrid mobile phone meets gaming device that is a cross between the Samsung Captivate and PSP Go.

It is said to include a landscape slider complete with PSP-like controls, not unlike the PSP GO, however with a touchpad in place of the joystick, a 3.7”-4.1” screen, a 5 megapixel camera and a 1GHz Snapdragon processor (surely we should be looking at the 1.5Ghz for this?).

March was the last time we heard rumours about a gaming phone which was supposedly from the collaboration of Sony’s PlayStation brand and it’s Sony Ericsson phone division.

Engadget’s trusted sources say that the device will run the 3.0 operating system, codename “Gingerbread”. It will run standard Android apps and will also include a marketplace just for Android-based games, especially ones that use the phone’s PSP controls.

I’m not gonna hold my breath on this one, looks like it could be rumourvile however would certainly be interesting and if small enough in form factor could sell very well.

I guess we’ll have to wait with baited breath, or not…
